04:14 pm - Damn lyric poets always talking about the freakin' "human experience" or some shit. . .
I recently managed to re-locate the mixed Cake CD that sarahdipity418 sent me once. I've been looking for it for nearly a year, and, of course, it turned out to be right where I imagined it would be.

I have realized how much I missed Cake. Such good (and amusing) songs as "Short Skirt/Long Jacket", "Building a Religion" and "Italian Leather Sofa" are songs that just don't get enough airplay.

But a song caught my attention last night.

But when you speak to her,
Her eyes light up,
The music spills right into your cup.
The minstrels play and the waitress brings ice.
There are pies on a carousel,
Have a slice.
But watch out:
She ain't no good for you.

"Goddamnit," I thought. "Why does every lyricist and musician feel the need to speak to me directly about this shit?"

And then I went on with my drive home, and went to the zoo for the third time in four days.

Because it is true: they are watching you, everyone is talking about you, and you need a new tinfoil hat.

I think I just have a natural ability to internalize and create/participate in mythic drama in all things.

Or maybe I'm just so egotistical that I think everyone is talking about me, even when they're not.

Or maybe, just maybe, you're right, and my tin-foil hat is wearing out.

But, everyone is talking about you.

Or, maybe, you need to add a pinwheel to your tinfoil hat. It would be a great conversation starter with the voices.

Careful, I might get petty if I get egotistical. . .

I'll look into the pinwheel. :)

That's true, we would not want anything to be MJD-heavy now would we? But, I firmly believe being petty is probably better than foaming at the mouth-- less wet, more dry.

If you had a pinwheel on your head I'd so be all over it.

Duly noted.

Cake!!! I love those guys. They were popular favorites with the studio crew. My personal favorite is "Sheep go to heaven, goats go to hell..."

Do you have the one where he's watching the birds dive-bomb the building & goes all existentialist about it? That's fun, too.

And "Satan is my motor" :-D

"Birds fall from the window ledge above mine, then the flap their wings at the last second."

Yep. And yeah, "Satan" rocks.

I certainly hope "Rock And Roll Lifestyle" (or whatever the actual title is) is in that mix.

I believe that's the title. "Is it you or your parents in this income-tax bracket?"

A great song, and yes, it is :)

I owe you and Bri for "Short Skirt, Long Jacket." It makes me pumped about interning, where, as you may or may not be aware, I actually *do* wear a short skirt and a long jacket. It's probably not as short a skirt as the Cake singer hopes, of course, but it's still nice to have a role-model in a song to aspire too. Now, if I could only get my fingernails to shine like justice...

*laughs* I may have some cool new music for you when I come back up. Not that you need it, seeing as you're clearly SPOILED by all these trips to the zoo!

Zoo = free for me. Naya

I'm mostly all about the "right allocations", personally.

I have another song that, once I get it, you're getting it, too.

Of course, I just want to know where the carousel with the pies resides.

What kind of charm do you use against harpies that are no good for you? I recommend leaving an atm slip showing $-32.73. Hope that you're doing well.

I think something appealing to both the North Wind and Iris would be the way to go, seeing as the North Wind drove them off initially and Iris promised they wouldn't haunt Phineas anymore.

I'm well. Hope you are well, as well. Well, that's a lot of "wells".

You and I need to go out for pie sometime.

But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns,
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.
