|02:45 pm - May I have your attention, please|
I've seen several of you post this in your journals:
Draft and mandatory service bills
Well, I decided to check it out, because everyone raised such a stink:
No action has been taken on either bill since Feb. 2003.
I expect that this bill isn't going anywhere.
On a side note, the 2005 date isn't mentioned in the bill (see text here: HR 163)
I now return you to your regularly scheduled journaling. More to come soon. I had a blast in KC, and I'll be writing up the entire trip shortly.

The military is stretched so thin right now that the only long-term choices are to pull out of some places or start a draft. But no lawmaker wants to vote for a draft in an election year except those who want to force that choice in an effort to get us to pull back, and if they did pass it no president would sign it when he's trying to be re-elected.
Watch out after the election though.
Yeah. I wouldn't put it past them just not doing anything until after the election, then pushing it through as fast as humanly possible.
I've decided that I'm not a fan of congress.org, though. It's terribly one-sided, and it presents things as fact which really aren't.
I think they need a smack.
