02:06 pm - Have you bitched out your Senator today? I have.

Okay, folks.

There's a lot of worry about this Gay Marriage ammendment floating around LJ right now. Apparently, the Senate is going to be discussing it and putting it to a vote shortly.

Why can I not find any information on this discussion? A Constitutional amendment is kinda big, and should be on the
schedule, I would think. Wouldn't you?

Of course, I may have missed it.

Anyway, this (unlike that "Draft everyone and their mother" thing that gets LJ in a tizzy every so often) has the potential to go to a vote, whether it will or will not pass.

Our job, as voters, is to ensure that our elected representatives understand our position. That is the most we can do, but it is also vitally important.

Write your senators (Ohio people, I have included your Sentators' contact info at the bottom of this post) and tell them what you feel. Even if you're for this amendment, you should still call them and tell them what you feel.

Remember, if this amendment passes, it will be the only amendment that restricts the freedom of an individual in our Constitution.

If you are not from OH, you can find your Senator's names/addresses here. (Don't be concerned by the "slant" that the Human Rights Campaign might have; they use exactly the same engine as the American Family Association. If you don't believe me, compare the two engines.) :)

Getting upset about it doesn't do anyone any good. At least, not in my opinion. I find that calm, collected, reasoned arguments are harder to dismiss as 'leftist propaganda' than angry screeching :)

Esp. when they come from a self-proclaimed disillusioned Republican.

I didn't think i was screaming.....(worried now)....I just wanted to let people know what things they are trying to pass underneath our noses...that is all....but I learn from others...still new at this with taking with my Senators and such....about a lot of things...

Hehe. You weren't. But in general, most conservatives write off anything that comes from a different perspective as "liberal screeching". Surprisingly, I haven't seen anyone screech yet. :)

I tend to let my elected reps know that I won't be voting Republican because of this very issue. In fact, I might be voting a total Democrat line just to show my anger and disdain.

disllusioned Republican, or dissembling Democrat?

Unfortunately, telling them you might vote all Democrat might make them think that you really are a Democrat, rather than the disillusioned Republican you claim to be.

True. I try not to tell them that I actually am going to vote a full Dem. ticket. That would be silly.

I just tell them that I'm not voting Republican if things stand this way.
