I so need one of these.

And one of these.

And one of these.

And definitely one of these to help freak out my friends.

If only they had the Five Fingered Hand of Eris. . .

But they do sell Chaosphere cufflinks. . .

Remember your Prinipia! The universal symbol of the faith is a pull-ring from a beer can on a piece of string. Still, I want that pendant.

Do those come in silver plate, though? Or maybe gold?

A platinum beer pull, with a diamond embedded in the hole. Why the hell not? But the can of beer with that on may be rather pricey.

pull-ring

You know, not being much of a beer drinker (and when I do it's at a bar) I've never had beer from a can, but I'm pretty sure that pull-rings were phased out about 20 years ago. So that universal symbol doesn't have quite the same meaning now that it did when the Principia was written.

Well, it would be less effort to break off the modern "Stay Tab" (to use the terminology of the page chronarchy links to below), but it doesn't have nearly the same imagery.

Re: Fuck Tabs

I remember that too. The idea of the tabs as legal tender brings up a few questions that make me doubt that they're actually used that way very often. (Why would the tab recipient be more likely to give sexual favors in exchange for a tab? Because they could then turn around around trade the tab for favors from someone else? Even then, why would someone be more likely to give sexual favors for a tab than they would be for free?) But someone who was less of a geek in middle school might know more about this than I.

Re: Fuck Tabs

In my experience, the original concept sort of translated down to "I'm going to give you this shiny piece of metal in the hopes that you will take pity on my pathetic ass and kiss/fondle/screw me". So, you know, not all that unlike an engagement ring :-P

And (just to take this back on-topic) quite a bit unlike a Necronomicon Gate ring. I hope.

Except that the tab trade didn't require you to say anything squishy and ridicule-worthy, like "I like you, and I'd like to take you to the movies" or whatever one does when one is thirteen.

Or even, presumably, "I like you, and I'd like to kiss/fondle/screw you." Because after all, movies aren't what they want.

Being the un-illuminated Discordian that I am, I had to look up pull rings.

http://www.beercanworld.com/beercans_types.htm

Apparently, there were some environmental concerns about them.

Yep, I remember Pull Tabs (to use the Proper Terminology of the site) being all over the place in the 70s. Yet there's something iconic about them; even now I can picture one of those curled pieces of aluminum without a problem.

Strangest line of that page: The popularity of the Cone Top was more practical than functional. What?

Re: pull-ring

The words of Goddess are just as true now as they were in acient times, when the Principia was written. We must just have faith. Also, this means I've probably confused pull-rings with whatever little bit of a metal you pull to access the beer on modern cans.

Heheh.... when I was 13 or so, I went "steady" with someone who put one of those on my finger(yeah, I know, he was cheap), and I wore it for months. Amazing how these little symbols surface....

Heh. Good for him. I believe kids these days would call that Bling Discordianism. Or something equally stupid.
