You know, I have no idea what's up with this, but apparently someone is reading athanasios's journal and forwarding links from it. I guess they've been doing it for a long time.

Whoever it is. . . You're just creating drama. If you don't like athanasios, then why are you reading his journal?

A) you know it's just going to make you mad.
B) forwarding things on just stirs the pot and pisses people off.
C) if you think you're being smart/cool, you ain't.

As a Discordian, I'd like to say one final thing:

If you think you're doing Eris a favour, you aren't. Rememeber the idea of destructive and creative chaos? If you don't, re-read your Principia, because you suck at being a Discordian.

===

(from p. 63, Principia Discordia)

To choose order over disorder, or disorder over order, is to accept a trip composed of both the creative and the destructive. But to choose the creative over the destructive is an all-creative trip composed of both order and disorder. To accomplish this, one need only accept creative disorder along with, and equal to, creative order, and also be willing to reject destructive order as an undesirable equal to destructive disorder.

I assume you're talking about BJ's comments being forwarded to the Bardic Guild by Todd. I kind of agree with Todd about being concerned with what BJ said, since he's suddenly been picked as the new head of the Bardic Guild (why we don't get to vote our own head, I don't know, but that's a different issue). In this case, it was BJ who forwarded the actual thread to the guild, so that we could see for ourselves what he said.

The comments looked as if BJ wanted ammunition from Athanasios to attack the MG, which would seem kinda sketchy if he was planning on attacking the MG with a person who has left ADF altogether, since BJ is to head a guild now. BJ says it's all a misunderstanding, and you can read that in the Bardic list's archives. For the most part, the controversy there has seemed to die down, I don't really know. But I can understand Todd be concerned, and wanting to ask about it. Todd says he wasn't actually reading Athanasios' journal to begin with, but heard about the comment in question from someone else.

Right? Wrong? Livejournals are public, aren't they? If you don't want people reading and commenting on what you say, you shouldn't write public entries or comment on public entries.

I don't know what any of this has to do with Discordianism, but I sure as hell am concerned about the health of the Bardic Guild.

That's what bugs me. There's someone who seems to just want to point these things out. That's what's annoying. I'd prefer it just get ignored.

the health of the Bardic Guild.

At less than 24 members (and generally ignoring new apps, from what people have told me), I've been concerned about it for a while. As I have been told that I am "too young to write chants," though, joining the BG seemed like a waste of my good time.

I don't know what any of this has to do with Discordianism

Hopefully nothing. But if there's somone out there who thinks they're being cute and Discordian, they should know that they really, really aren't.

Wow, you produced an instinctive "Typical! Whenever anything goes wrong, an Discordian gets the blame!" reaction in me. This will be useful when we become a persecuted religious minority. Is there any reason to suspect a Discordian?

Dunno. It isn't me, at least so far as I know. But then, some people don't quite understand that Discordianism isn't all about destruction. . . That's not to say that we aren't, I just think that we should check out the Principia on occasion, and then make an enlightened decision from there :)

In some pagan circles, "Discordian" is already used as a pejorative by those who don't understand Discordianism. That's why I wrote this.

It's a waste of everyone's time.

Truthfully, I posted this because it's really an annoying trend. There's no reason for me to be reading about stuff posted in another LJ, except when I read it on my own f-list.

I'm starting to wonder if someone will be pointing out my LJ entries. . . Actually, I know someone has in the past.

Hear, hear! Well said, and all that stuff.

I've always thought that Discordians get the shaft when it comes to trouble; they're always the first people to be blamed whether it has anything to do with them or not. Plus, it's amazing to see how many people always think that chaos is only destructive. I think they may want to take a course in evolution, because if it wasn't for chaos (in the form of genetic mutations), life would never have happened.

Personally, the only people I ever look at twice when wondering what their motives are are followers of Set, Kali, and the like, and that's only because those gods actually are sometimes out purely for blood. But even then, I won't instinctively blame anything on them.

And what is wrong with being out for blood? Death is as necessary as life.

continuing the pot stirring does nothing to help your own cause amongst those with only a passing knowledge of what the hell you're talking about. it does however discredit that position as being nothing more than pot stirring or sour grapes, take yer pick.

Oh my dear and beloved Children of Eris, thou thinketh that Chaos can be defined? Thou believeth that constructive chaos be the only useful kind?

Once Malaclypse The Younger, sat meditating under the Tum-Tum Tree. After 23 days of meditation, Mal-2 decided to make for himself a sandwich. So he returned to his home, which had apparently been visited by other Discordians.

Mal-2 raised his voice in frustration, saying "That with which I was to make sandwiches hath been left out on the counter! See, for it now be spoilt!" He looked on the table, where the bag of chips he was going to eat sat opened. He placed one in his mouth and it had become stale, he cried aloud "Eris, how could these, who I thought to be Discordian, act in such a manner? What shall I do to teach them that this is not acceptable?"

He then went into the bathroom, since 23 days requires a large bladder. As he began to relieve himself, he sprayed the area. "What sort of sorcery be this?!" he exclaimed. Upon examination he again cried out to She What Done It All, "What cur hath placed Reynolds Wrap over my toilet? This is not the way of Eris!"

At that, Eris K. Discordia appeared before him, Her size towering over Mal-2, Her face fixed with anger, Her hands clenched and Her teeth barred. "Malaclypse, you are my best Beloved, yet even you have not understood. Do you truly know the Way of Me? For what good is Chaos if it is only constructive, what power in Discord, if only used to make people smile?" Her voice trembled with anger and frustration. "I have ridden in the chariot of my brother Aries, delighting in the Chaos of Man. I have laughed at Troy, at Plataea, Mycale and Peloponnesia. I delighted in the destruction of Greece by Rome, and Rome by the unwashed masses of Barbarians. I delight now, in the chaos of Baghdad. In the struggle between the Ordered Dogma of the West, and the Religious Dogma of the Middle East. All of this is Chaos, all of this is what causes Man to grow, to move forward, to learn. All of this is human experience."

"But, my Goddess," Mal exclaimed, "those wars led to many people dying, how can this not be bad, evil, wrong?"

"My Child," Eris sighed, returning to Her usual manifestation, "There is only one evil in the entire Universe. Stagnation. For anything that causes agitation, anything that provokes action, anything that spurs discussion, creates new growth."

"I do not understand," Mal sighed wistfully, "how does my ruined lunch and my plastic wrapped toilet spur growth? How does it cause me to learn?"

"Ah," Eris smiled, "it led to this conversation, didn't it?"

And then was Mal-2 enlightened again.

"But, I must ask, my Goddess, who did these things to me so that I might learn this lesson? Who left this food out to spoil?"

Eris laughed hard, harder than he had heard her laugh in many years, "My dear and wonderful Child, you forgot to put them away after your last lunch. You left it in public where all could see, and where spoilage is wont to happen. You are the one who brought this chaos."

"But, I did not wrap my own toilet seat." he replied.

"No, that was me, I thought it was very funny." Eris laughed as she faded back into the Void from which she came.

Can't we all just get along?

I'm not part of ADF, and know very little of the controversy beyond chronarchy's posts, but this whole thread is striking a nerve with me because of all the controversy I've been dealing with this summer regarding our local ecumenical Pagan organization.

In terms of lj links and posts, I see it as a gray area. Blogs occupy an intermediate (liminal?) space between private listservs and public websites (I'm not talking technology, but rather how people treat them.) I personally try to avoid it outside of lj. A general rule of thumb might be don't do or say anything outside of the privacy of your own home that you wouldn't want to become public knowledge.

As far as the whisper campaings and intrigue go, I'm fairly disturbed by what has been going on in my local Pagan community, what seems to be going on in the Cleveland Pagan Community and in ADF, and even in national politics. (Is Vietnam really that important to 21st century America?) We need to be able to discuss differences of opinion in a calm, gentle manner without treating someone who may seem to disagree with us as an enemy. I truly believe that we are all children of the gods, and thus brothers and sisters. It's o.k. for people to have different religions and theologies, and to express those differences; but we're all still human. As my group has been working on a code of ethics, we included Integrity as one of the nine Druid virtues. I think half (not all, just half) of the world's problems would be solved if they followed this precept.

The Golden Rule is also a very good guideline. As the Hindu Mahabarata puts it, "This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what would cause pain if done to you." Society needs a certain amount of empathy to function.

Can we all get back to either minding our own business or trying to work together for the common good yet?

down at the english fair
one evening i was there
when i heard a showman shouting underneath the flair
*chorus*
i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts
there they are standing in a row
big ones small ones some as big as your head
give 'em a twist
a flick of the wrist
that's wut the show man said
now that i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts
everybody knows they'll make me rich
there stands me wife
the idle of me life
singing a rolly bowly ball a penny a pitch
singing a rolly bowly ball a penny a pitch
rolly bowly ball
a rolly bowly ball
singing rolly bowly ball a penny a pinch

i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts
*how lovely*
there they are standing in a row
*1-2-3-4*
big ones small ones some as big as your head
*and bigger*
give 'em a twist
a flick of the wrist
that's wut the show man said
now that i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts
everybody knows they'll make me rich
*Have a banana*
there stands me wife
the idle of me life
singing a rolly bowly ball a penny a pitch
singing a rolly bowly ball a penny a pitch
rolly bowly ball
a rolly bowly ball
singing rolly bowly ball penny a pinch
