You know, I have no idea what's up with this, but apparently someone is reading athanasios's journal and forwarding links from it. I guess they've been doing it for a long time.

Whoever it is. . . You're just creating drama. If you don't like athanasios, then why are you reading his journal?

A) you know it's just going to make you mad.
B) forwarding things on just stirs the pot and pisses people off.
C) if you think you're being smart/cool, you ain't.

As a Discordian, I'd like to say one final thing:

If you think you're doing Eris a favour, you aren't. Rememeber the idea of destructive and creative chaos? If you don't, re-read your Principia, because you suck at being a Discordian.

===

(from p. 63, Principia Discordia)

To choose order over disorder, or disorder over order, is to accept a trip composed of both the creative and the destructive. But to choose the creative over the destructive is an all-creative trip composed of both order and disorder. To accomplish this, one need only accept creative disorder along with, and equal to, creative order, and also be willing to reject destructive order as an undesirable equal to destructive disorder.

forwarding someone's locked entries to those not authorized to see them directly.

That accusation has been made, but at the moment it's neither here nor there, esp. since I don't make locked entries, and the entry in question wasn't locked. :)

I firmly believe that if you don't want it public you shouldn't make it public.

That's very true. "Never put anything on the internet that you wouldn't want your mother to read," is a good rule. :)

there's no reason to read LJ stuff except through your own friends list

Allow me to re-phrase that, then. There's no reason to be going to another person's LJ with the knowledge that you're just going to be pissed off, and, honestly, I don't see athanasios as a serious threat to ADF, and so wouldn't count him as an enemy. Yeah, he's got a lot of LJ friends in ADF, but then, so do I, and we present very different views of ADF, or at least I hope so. I have this weird theory that people can make up their own minds.

Actually, looking at this particular situation (but not knowing who is doing the reading&forwarding), I don't think there's any reason to assume that someone was reading athanasios knowing they'd get pissed off. It looks like the offensive comment in question was posted by someone else, not athanasios.

Scenario: Someone in ADF who cares about the Bardic Guild really is a friend of athanasios, reads his journal, and notices the next head of the Bardic Guild seem to imply that he wants to take down the organization from the inside. To me it seems reasonable that this might cause alarm.

Now I can certainly think of better ways to handle it from there (such as verifying that the received meaning was the intended one), but I don't think it's necessary to assume that anyone was reading athanasios's LJ with the knowledge that they were just going to be pissed off.

Well, I don't know who it was that forwarded said message to whoever, but I do read athanasios's journal, mainly because I feel we have a lot in common, and because I am a second circle member of AODA, even though I can safely say that we differ on how we feel about ADF. And I had read the original post about Gwynne leaving (although I had already read it on ADF's lists), but I hadn't read the comments until they were pointed out to me. And yes, those comments did concern me, but I take it all with a grain of salt and a wait-and-see attitude.

I understand that athanasios is upset about leaving ADF, although I do believe it is the best choice for all involved, given that I think there were irreconcilable differences. And I understand that people often hold grudges when there are separations like that - it happens in cases of divorce all the time. And where better to express one's frustrations than in a journal (although I do agree with you that sometimes PUBLIC journal might not be the best idea, UNLESS one is intending others to see it)?

Anyway - lots of words to say that I agree with you, rfunk. Thanks for being so level-headed. I always enjoy your posts.

Wow, someone who actually exemplifies most of my speculation. ;-)

Thanks! Whenever I comment on ADF politics I feel like I'm stepping into a minefield, but I hope I can bring a useful perspective into it.
