09:42 am - Festivals, music, and catwoman (plus some)
Couple of things:

1. Elysium - At one time, I was planning on going for the whole weekend. Over the past two or three days, though, my plans have changed. Right now, I'm hoping to make it there on Saturday sometime. With Tina getting fun surgery two days ago, classes just starting, and work running out my ears, I'm not sure I can be there very long, if I make it at all.

2. Green Day - Anyone who knows me well knows I like my Green Day. I own every album, and the newest one, American Idiot, is no exception, as of last night. I'd been too busy to pick it up earlier, even though I'd been looking forward to it for weeks.

I am pleased with the album, as far as I've gotten into it. Billie Joe Armstrong, thank you.

On October 23, they'll be in Cincinnati. I think I might like to go.

3. Catwoman - (no spoilers) Last night, I saw the movie Catwoman. It's not that it was bad, but, well, it was. I've seen many impractical crime-fighting outfits in my years of perusing comics and superheroes, but this was rediculous. Apparently they had a "whip-triainer" for the movie. I know this because it was mentioned in the credits, but I can't imagine that he did anything, as the whip was computer generated for the whole movie, just like whatserface who starred in it.

The dialogue was bad, and I was amused to find that a beauty cream manufacturer had at least a mile of tunnels large enough for a human to run through in their factory that are apparently used to dump things straight into the ocean (wouldn't it just be easier to call the EPA than get revenge?), but that's a required thing for all factories in comic books, so it's 100% excusable.

Worse than the dialogue, though, was the fight scenes, which is not excusable. The fights were like this: face-shot, cut to next closeup, face-shot, closeup of foot, face-shot, CGI of Catwoman, CGI of cat, face-shot, someone dropping or grabbing a gun, face-shot, wildly out of control panoramic shot, face-shot, cut to next closeup, repeat ad nauseam. I couldn't follow the action, nor could I piece it together, and I'm a very good with spatial relations.

The most annoying thing, though, was the fact that apparently, no person working on this movie had ever seen a cat in real life. Oh, maybe they'd seen movies, or drawings, but they had obviously never seen a cat. Despite training 30 cats for this flick, they did at least 3/4 of the scenes with cats were CGI. Whatserface who starred in it had also apparently never seen a cat, because her movements didn't look anything like a cat.

The only good thing about this flick? Whatserface who starred in it adopted one of the cats after filming.

In the end, I want my $1.50 back. But if you can catch it on a $.50 or dollar matinee, you should go see it.

4. Soccer Rules - "A player is cautioned and shown a yellow card if he commits any of the following seven offenses: is guilty of unsporting behavior; shows dissent by word or action; persistently infringes the laws of the game; delays the restart of play; fails to repect the required distance when play is restarted with a corner kick or free kick; enters or re-enters the field of play without the referees permission; deliberately leaves the field of play without the referees permission."

Why did they need a Patriot Act? Why couldn't we have just put soccer rules into the Constituion and been done with it?

FBI Agent: "You have shown dissent by word or action. Yellow card."

5. The Law of Fives - "All things happen in fives, or are divisible by or are multiples of five, or are somehow directly or indirectly related to five. The Rule of Fives is never wrong."

So catwoman is worth 1.00 but the .50 cents put you overboard?

There is totally no cents symbol anymore. How tragic.

Yeah, because it was the difference between $3 for the two of us and $2 for the two of us.

I agree on the tragic loss of the cent-sign.

Re: Looking for this?

On of the best things about E2 for me (and which I still go back to check on) is the Unicode guide.

After my week of tearjerker films (Finding Nemo, Hidalgo, Seabiscuit) we were looking for a film that wouldn't make me cry... someone suggested we NOT see Catwoman, since it made him cry (knowing how much he'd spent on tickets for him and his wife).

I heard claims that the current political climate prevented lesbian tomfoolery from happening in said film. Another reason to vote out the current administration. :-P

OK, we saw Catwoman last night. It wasn't that bad. I don't like my movies to look like video games (CGI isn't perfect yet, and too many filmmakers today don't realize that), and I always find fight scenes boring, but other than that it was entertaining. Oh yeah, and the animated catwoman looked more like the animated spiderman than like a cat. And Sharon Stone's character ended up less interesting than she could have been.

Ah well. I do find Halle Barry attractive (leather outfit or not, though I'm not complaining about the leather), but I preferred the long hair.

My favorite part was the way they connected this to previous incarnations, rather than expecting us forget about, for example, Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. I think I even saw a Pfeiffer/Catwoman photo from that movie in the current movie, which was a great touch.
