12:39 pm - What is art?
I do not believe that this is art.

I believe that this is.

I do not believe that this is art.

I believe that this is.

I do not believe that this is art

I believe that this is.

I do not believe that this is art.

I believe that this is.

I do not believe that this is art.

I believe that this is.

I do not believe that this is art.

I believe that this is.

I know exactly what is art, and what is not.

Having talked (read- "debated") with you about art many times before, (a) I'm surprised at some of your choices (given at one point you contended that art was something that looked nice when hanging on a wall & that art could not possibly be functional in any way so the fact that you think the High Rennesiance Madonna painting & Ophilia are not art while the stained glass doors & the coin are seems sort of counter to that particular claim on your part) & (b) I'm not surprised to find that I agree with you exactly 50%, and I'm sure you aren't either. I think it's all art. :)

Other thoughts:
I think the sculpture does work much better as a baboon. :)

Art is entirely about intent so it does have to be created by someone with the idea that it is art.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not art. It just means you don't like it. I'm seriously not a fan of Damian Hirst's "dead animal in vat" series but he certainly intends for them to be art & the galleries that show them agree.

I'm sure I have other thoughts but my brain's fuzzy right now.

Oh, & I should mention for anyoeen who might not know that I'm an artist.

Does my opinion matter then? Or is it just the artists and the gallery?

Matters about as much as the fact that I think they're closer to science experiements than art. :)

I think it is all art also. :)

And I happen to LIKE many of the pieces that are labeled "This is not art." So there.

I do, too. I've got 3 different Waterhouse prints in my bedroom (Miranda, The Soul of the Rose & The Crystal Ball & a different Pre-Raffaelite's painting of Ophilia & I'm a huge fan of Munch's work, including The Scream.

I certainly didn't make claim to such a statement. :) I just said that to me it is all art, and I happen to like many that you have labeled as not art.
