01:45 pm - Further evidence that Eliade is overrated. . .
homo religiosus does not exist.

We are homo ludens.

Eliade can eat my shorts. I'm all about Huizinga.

That is all.

For now. :)

I wouldn't say that he's a terrible writer, so much as that he's just not as right as Huizinga. I think that Homo Ludens needs more attention, beacuse he's so much more right than Eliade's Sacred and Profane.

Eliade always had problems, but I didn't realize just how bad they might be. Interestingly, Huizinga pre-dates a good amount of Eliade's work.

But the biggest problem I had with Eliade is the amount he identifies with Jung. I can't stand Carl. :)

Well, you might not say he's a terrible writer, but I do, heh heh. He doesn't lay out what I see as good, logical arguments, and the man's arrogance is second-to-none. I haven't actually read anything by Huizinga, but I've heard a lot about him; I'll definitely have to check him out.

I've always had conflicting ideas about Jung. There's some of his ideas that make a lot of sense, but the whole archetype thing has always thrown me off. And when I see Eliade not only focusing on those ideas, but expounding on them, it grates my nerves.

I find his argument very compelling. I'm looking at possibly condensing it for Oak Leaves. :)
