A simple revision?

A few of you may know that I spent an entire night last week trying to finish a paper, only to find out that it was actually due today. This is the paper I mentioned in my last post.

Well, last night I decided to revise it and resubmit it.

It was 14 pages.

It is now 20.

I'm still slightly overwhelmed. If I hadn't stopped, I could have written at least another twenty pages.

Guess what?

There's a nuclear weapon lying in a farmer's field in North Carolina. Outside Goldsboro.

Apparently, the USAF lost a B-52 bomber with two warheads on board in 1961 (on Jan. 23), and while they were able to recover one of the two warheads, the other's emergency parachute didn't deploy correctly and it scattered across the landscape, ending up mostly in a farmer's field.

Because the ground was water-logged (described as "quicksand-like"), they couldn't get to all the pieces.

But rest assured. It's only the uranium core that they couldn't recover.

On a side note, five of six safety features failed, meaning one switch came between life and firey death for a bunch of North Carolinans.
