08:33 am - The ghost of Dude
The past two nights have been basically preparing to summon a ghost. See, the mechanics of it are pretty simple: Contact the overseer of the angels in the fifth encampment of the first firmament of the heavens, convince him that I'm a bigger, badder angel than he is, order him to send his angels out to do my dirty work, and get this ghost to rise up from the grave.

In all, not that difficult.

The difficult part will be pronouncing all the angelic names correctly. Fortunately, I have both the Hebrew and an English transliteration. Unfortunately, I don't read Hebrew.

My target ghost goes by the name of "Dude", and I'll be questioning him.

Having never questioned a ghost about things before, this should be interesting. I'm not sure how accurate he'll be, as he hasn't been dead all that long, but the angels will persuade him not to lie. Apparently, most ghosts are likely to lie when asked a question.

I don't have a target date set for this working, but it should be soon. I'm still working up a list of questions for him.

Also, last night, I went hiking with singingwren at Highbanks. At one point, she took off down a trail that pretty much ended in the woods and with me on my kness.

But the fingernail scratches she gave me are more visible than the bramble scratches.

There's no *real* use to get up in the morning and breathe, either. That's just a gratuitous use of air, basically.

But I do that, too, and for the exact same reason: It's challenging and fun.

I call people all the time that I don't have a reason to talk to.

And what better reason is there to do anything than to see if you can? If you aren't pushing your limits, you'll never know what your true potential is. And a life lived without achieving that potential is truly, truly not worth doing.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me. After all, you really don't know what you can accomplish if you don't push yourself beyond what you know :)

Well, it's not like you can "waste" magic, either. It's not like it's going to be depleated if you use more than your share.

In a world of limited good like mine, that's about the only good that isn't limited.

The way I look at it is this, Jenni.

There are lots of dead people. There are lots of ghosts. There are not lots of angels, but for this purpose there will be. And damn, will they have names

After shouting, "Rezwebekiel!" or whatever they call themselves about 49 times, it is absolutely vital you don't mess up in the end by asking for the wrong name.

"Dude" is completely unforgettable -- and awesome. This guy will have personality. "Dude" is a lot more likely to be personable and helpful to you, whereas Prudence or VonSturgeonson might be somewhat sinister. A man who had enough of a sense of humor (or a good strong Texan streak) is a much wiser choice of spirit.

Plus, he is buried in Eris, so he presumably lived there.

And as for the randomness bit, don't worry about it so much. Impulse is usually a good sign, and I believe if something catches your attention like that you should jump on it. (Okay, I know this gets me into trouble, but it also got me into ADF...) Anyway, this is a situation where you need confidence -- and arrogance -- which means you do not want to work with something you are utterly uncertain about. It will be MUCH easier to pretend to be a mighty angel calling on someone named "Dude"; I mean, how can you not snicker at the very name? I'd rather try to lord over "Mojo Johnson" than I would "Dr. Lucius N. VanValkenberg" any day of the week.

Don't worry, though, Mike will be GRATEFUL after bugging said spirit, and even if he turns out to be a jerk he will make sure to thank him and be polite.

If he doesn't, we'll punish him!

You could always write me a bio. I don't have one from you. Feel free to include such adjectives when you write it.
