09:57 am - 1000, Joe Merchant, and a fingernail clipping
Random note: Only a magician would be this worried about a lost fingernail clipping.

On an even more random note: The entry on Salzberg was my 1,000th LJ entry.

Also:

I found Joe Merchant. I'd tell you what happened next, but that'd spoil the story.

Where Is Joe Merchant really is a great book. I was struck by how much it reminded me of the Illuminatus! Trilogy as I was reading yesterday. The book has pretty much everything you could dream of. Just to name a few of the things:

  • murder
  • sex
  • a woman with green eyes who walks back into Frank's life
  • romance and reality
  • Atlantis
  • UFO's
  • a woman who comes in contact with alien intelligence while screwing under a telescope
  • mystery
  • Alaska and Key West
  • a space ship named Cosmic Muffin
  • a rock star who couldn't take the life
  • a yellow journalist
  • a guy who finally did what we all want to do to jet ski's and Hollywood directors: blow them up
  • transmigration
  • pirates and pirate towns
  • Fidel Castro
  • an African warlord who's out for blood and a magic scepter
  • Hurricanes and sea squalls, and the Bermuda Triangle

And it's all prefectly believeable. At least, I can't say as it'd surprise me.

I think I'll go to Half Price Books today and try and locate Don't Stop the Carnival. I need to get a Norman Paperman fix. Then I'll have to get around to finishing A Salty Piece of Land. But now that I've finished with Frank Bama (with whom I found a good identification), I want to move onto Norman Paperman (with whom I've always had an identification since I first heard of him), and then back to Tully Mars (a hero of mine who turned me onto the only Catholic saint I have any devotion for, St. Barbara). I'm not sure if I'll like Norman or Tully better, but I imagine one of those two will be more. . . I dunno.

Happily ever after, now and then. . . indeed. Understanding that it of vital importance to me.

It's funny, but my longest vacation since I started work here has only left me wanting to be back at it. . . not at all rested and returned to work.
