02:02 pm - Fighting the good fight, you know. . .
"I can't believe she picked it up,
She didn't know the rules somehow.
Then I hear her say, "Hello". . .
Panic in the gray room now!

I'm laughing at the rules today.

Don't fret over that too much. There are few who can compete with a gay man. It's one of our oh-so fabulous superpowers, you know... :P

On a totally unrelated note, doushite "shizukagozen" wo anatano yuuzaanemu tsukau no tame ni eranda? Ii koto to omou da kedo... I've been curious for some time, but have never gotten around to asking before now.

Please forgive me as my Japanese is extremely rusty, but I believe you are asking why I have the username I do and/or what it means (or if I know what it means)? Haha. I suck. :)

Anyway, this is from my el-Jay (and most likely more than you wanted to know):

Shizuka Gozen, in legend, was the favourite concubine of the twelfth-century hero Yoshitsune. She was also a dancer known for her beauty and magical dancing. It is said that there was a one hundred day drought and the day she danced the gods sent down rain.

Yoshitsune's half-brother Yoritomo forced him to flee Kyoto; he did so with many warriors and twelve of his concubine, one of which was a pregnant Shizuka. After traveling Yoshitsune realized his entourage was too large and so he sent all of the women home. Shizuka returned to Kyoto to be arrested by Yoritomo.

Yoritomo had her interrogated, but she refused to reveal anything. After some time, he cruelly declared if her unborn child was male the child was to be taken and killed. No sooner had Shizuka given birth than the child was snatched from her and taken to a beach where he was killed.

Before releasing her Yoritomo wished to see the famous dancer perform, but Shizuka refused. He finally got his desire fulfilled when he retainers tricked Shizuka into dancing for the gods at the Hachiman Shrine while Yoritomo watched from behind a blind. Shizuka perfumed the shirabyoshi (an erotic dance) and when she was sure she had the attention and admiration of all she broke into a love song. She sang of her lover Yoshitsune and how he had escaped Yoritomo. Yoritomo was torn between anger and joy at her abilities, but in the end he released her.

Only 18, she shaved her head and became a nun. The story concludes that she died a year later from grief and that Yoshitsune was tracked down and killed.

I chose the name because I love concubine, courtesans, tayu, old Japanese prostitutes, and geisha (some historians say Shizuka was an inspiration for geisha-- I do not buy it), I shave my head, I want to be a nun, I have lost three children, and I am a dancer. In short, I relate to her. While in Japan I visited many places tied to Yoshitsune but I was unable to visit the place of his death. As I am moving to Thailand I shall get to it soon enough.
