04:59 pm - Mad Lib prayers?
Please fill in the blanks:

  • c) your name, pseudonym, or identifying category (i.e. "MJD" or "A child of the Earth")

  • e) Cosmological place of this deity
  • f) Action you have done for this deity - optional

I'm testing "MadLib" style prayer creation, and I need a number of possibilites here.

Possibly sillier, yes :)

This is the format I'm using:

___(a)___, ___(b)___

I, ___(c)___, call out to you.

You who ___(d)___,

You who ___(e)___:

I have ___(f)___ for you! (optional line)

Grant me ___(g)___! (optional line)

Accept this prayer, I honour you.

___(h)___

I do so hope that you're recording these prayers and keeping them somewhere safe for posterity?

In the meantime, I am, much like the hampsters, suddenly confused by something I found on the internet. But that's not uncommon.

yeah, this is what I'm talkin' about! But unless you make it really general like "verb" or something, you won't get anything funny like "O Isis, you who minx and square-dance..." ;P

Can they be intended for humor and/or fictional characters that aren't quite gods?

Sure :) I'm working this out for a presentation on prayer, and possibly for a later book. We'll see how the first couple of exercises go. . .

Doing it this way is not true mad-lib because all of the attributes, deeds, etc, are going to be lined up with that deity. That's more of a fill-in-the-blank prayer. If you really wanted it to be a mad-lib, you'd have like "Name of deity", "Attribute," "Adjective", "mythological feat", "act of worship", "type of offering", etc, and then the person could be all amused at how it comes together. but then, if they know it's a prayer, that might spoil the effect.

in this case it would be for me:

Name of Diety: THor

Attribute: Sex

Adjective: grand

Mythological Feat: Winning a horse

Act of worship: Throwing sticks

Type of offering: Tabacco

You see it would only work, if you didn't tell them that it is for a religous thing.

If you just say:

Mythological Figure:

action word:

Adjective:

action word:

pious action:

Yeah, that would be fun. You could also try like "God of (abstract noun)" or "(adjective) goddess of (nouns)" or whatever, just to see what sort of deities you get. :)
