10:58 am - Traveling, dinner, and adding in more training to ADF
"Gods do not, generally, have a lot to say, but what they do say is worth listening to."
     -Phil Hine, Pseudonomicon
Last night's Feast of Saint Barbara went well: I managed not only to cook enough food for everyone but also to do it in a timely manner. Tina, Maggie, tesinth, and singingwren all joined me for dinner, and I think I managed to get enough things that people liked that everyone ate their fill.

Of course, I cooked things I can't pronounce (or spell), but that's what makes it an adventure.

It appears that the ADF Initiate Program will be up and running in the very near future. . . I'm excited to see how this program is received by the general membership. We'll have a bare-bones study guide up and available as well as all the courses. It's just pending a confirmation of approval from the ADF Council of Lore.

Oh, and Greece. . . I have my itinerary set (April 6-14, 2007), I just have to make sure it happens right in my office. . . There's some conflicting vacation to work out between myself and a co-worker, but I don't think it's major. Then I need to find a cheap flight. . . At the moment, things aren't looking too promising on that front.

Initiate Program

I suppose this will all be announced when it's finalized but- what is the difference between this "Initiate Program" and the GSP, and so forth? Or is this a revision of an earlier training program?

Re: Initiate Program

It will be announced pretty soon, I imagine (I should probably check to see if I'm supposed to write the announcement for it or not, now that I think about it).

The IP is a more. . . skill-set focused program. All the coursework *can* count toward clergy training, but it won't necessarily lead there. It focuses a lot on individual skill in things like magic (practical use), divination (again, practicum) and trance (very much practicum), where the GSP 1 doesn't really focus on that sort of stuff.

It's more experiential, though you'll still get a good chunk of academics (this is, after all, ADF). :)

I think I'd have to complete three or four courses at this point to pass it, and they're not easy ones. It's a higher level of difficulty than either the DP or GSP 1, mostly stemming from the fact that it's a movement into working more intimately with a lot of things: the Kindred, your Patrons, and trance and magic in general.

Re: Initiate Program

This may get confusing, don't you think?

Re: Initiate Program

*nods* We're working on ways to keep such confusion down.

However, the more I look at it, the more I see the varied programs as advantages, rather than sources of confusion.

Unlike, say, OBOD or AODA or any of the other training programs I've seen out there, ADF doesn't stick you with a "one size fits all" program of study. We're actively trying to play to the strengths of our members and help them develop along a line similar to what they thing they should go down.

Re: Initiate Program

Based on the admittedly summary description you gave, I can't help but wonder if this isn't duplicating some of the guild study programs.

I'll await the announcement for further information.
