|04:21 pm - Vacation math: gettin' to festivals|
So let's see:
Currently, I have 12.5 vacation days. I accrue at about 1.1 day every four weeks (give or take). By the time Greece starts, I will have about 14 days.
Greece will take 8 of my vacation days. I will earn a half day during the trip, leaving me with approx. 6.5 days left.
I will not be at Desert Magic this year because Greece is at the same time. Those vacation days are thus not lost.
Trillium will cost me two vacation days, dropping me to 4.5 days.
Wellspring looks like it will take approximately 3 to 4 vacation days. I will have added another day and a half to my accural since Greece by then, so I will have 3 or 2 left after Wellspring. Let's go with 2 for the sake of addition.
My next required vacation day is going to be Summerland, which will require 2 days. I will have earned 3 days back since Wellspring, which will bring my grand total to 3.
Summerland is, traditionally, the end of the festival season for me. But this season, there is so much more to have!
There is the Kaleidoscope Gathering that I have always wanted to go to. It's a 10.5 hour drive from Columbus, Ohio, to Plantagenet, Ontario. They have weekend passes for those who can't be there the whole time (like me), but going for the entire festival would be four vacation days. So, if I can make it, I can allocate (let's say) two days to that.
Muin Mound Madness is back this year. That festival would also take two vacation days, if I went for the whole thing. Perhaps, though, I can make it up for just the weekend? Maybe take Friday off? That would bleed my vacation dry, but I'd finally get to make it to MMM.
That leaves me with nothing, vacation-wise, come August 27th.
Then there's Three Realms, which I've always wanted to go to, but can never afford either the plane fare or the time, and Fall Fest, which falls at a bad time for me. Pantheacon is always a hope, but I don't know if that's going to be an option until I stop jetting off to foreign countries for a couple of days here and there (besides, the idea of hotel conventions leave me a bit cold and makes me want to check my dental work). The Midnight Flame Festival is one that I would really like to go to, but given how far it is and the timing, I'm not holding my breath.
But, if I (again) take no vacation until the next festival season, I'll have 8 days built up when Trillium 2008 rolls around. So we'll say that this'll all work out for the best.

I didn't think we earned vacation time when we were on vacation, either that or personal time, I know its one of the two.
I believe accrual remains the same (it's not like you could ever catch up). I suppose I should check with HR, though.
I do have a few workshops that have been described as "sexy" before.
There was this one workshop that included me taking off my clothes. . .
Maybe something can be arranged :) I might be able to pull it off (no puns intended).
Got a date yet?

...I think I've made my point...
I dunno. I'm kinda unclear. You want me to go to Kaleidoscope?
It's okay. You'll make it there, eventually, too. :)

Seattle, one or two days in mid September. You can stay with me and we can go to the Ohio State game on the 15th. I know, wishful thinking on my part.
By the time that game rolls around, I should have a day accrued again, so I think I can certainly do it. Don't worry, I thought about that as I was planning it, but I don't think I put it down.
Hello, new to your lj, finally looked you up here after reading all the intelligent, patient and funny posts made to the ADF lists in the last few weeks. (Er, not that you weren't exhibiting those traits before, but I just re-joined the org, you see. . . ).
If you do come to Seattle and have an hour or two to spare, I'd love to buy you a coffee and show you the best Pagan shop in town. :)
You forgot Commfest.
Sadly my ability to go to festivals is severely limited this year. There's several factors influencing this, including 1) more ambitious to Mexico, Spain, the rest of Europe, etc, 2) being an unpaid intern with no job on the horizon for at least another two quarters, and 3) having an intense 5-class schedule for spring quarter that could possibly kill me.
I have saved money for Wellspring, which I would really enjoy attending, but I can't really know if I'll be able to go until I know when my exams and such are gonna be.
Trillium I always like, but I may not be able to afford two festivals. And by may not I mean can't. :(
No, actually I didn't. But I didn't include it here for other reasons.
You should go to both. But then, I say that in disregard of financial situations, of course.
Does Comfest not require vacation days?
It does. I'll tell you why I left it off later.
