|05:38 pm - London 2012: a more amusing post than the last|
Dude, look a the logo to the right! See the fuschia! Look at the blue background! Take in the white lettering! Is it doing it for you yet?
Okay, so the new London 2012 Olympics logo looks like something I spent a quarter-hour in Photoshop creating. I'll give you that.
But what I must insist is that, even if you don't like it at first, that's because you haven't seen it move!
Yes, they've designed an animated logo. Which, of course, will end up on sheets of paper which are decidedly not animated. But it's the thought that counts, right?
Anyway, to obtain the full effect of this logo, you have to watch the video that London2012 has put out with this new logo. For as much as I disliked the damn ugly thing at first (I mean, who chooses that colour scheme to represent their nation's athletic prowess in such sports as Beach Volleyball and Badminton? Oh, wait: I guess that answers that. . .), after watching the video and seeing what this logo can do, I'm completely behind it.
Honestly, anything that can make English construction vehicles look like something out of a 1950's atomic fear movie by mutating out of the ground is okay with me.

Damn it, I want my four minutes back, ya bastard!! :) Eh, who am I kidding, I would have just wasted them looking at dirty pictures of asian women anyways...
I knew I should have gone into advertising, they've gotta be the only people more stoned than religious studies people.
I admit to being slightly disturbed by the 'branding' ... But, the message was pretty positive. I can get behind that.
The logo, however, is questionable. I want to understand the mindset of the artist and the team that approved it.

I suppose the mindset is supposed to have been, "Let's draw '2012' using only thin diagonal lines like the ones zooming all over the video."
Of course, they were probably high on speed and old video games at the time.....
I can't get the link to work.... is it still an active link?
Thanks... I guess I thought that the actual logo was animated. I am seeing a film, but no animated logo anywhere. I did see a news report, however, that the animation was causing epileptic seizures, so maybe they took it down.
That's the clearest copy I could find (with the lovable description of "looks like Lisa Simpson giving...).
I figured that the vid wasn't what Chronarchy was talking about, but they seemed to have pulled it from everywhere.
Oh thanks! That IS fun. Colors dancing. :) They should have left it multicolored, though, for the flat version.

I think this is the complete original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QorkoY1sVt4
The diver's splash may be harmful to your health. (Looks like an old video game.)
The comments on the petition
are amusing, such as "Tis an affront to common decency, and I can easily spot an unsavory act between two people."
At first I demonstrated my ignorance of UK geography by assuming it was somehow based on the islands. Now I can't get the Lisa Simpson image out of my head.
Thx, silly me, searching for 'logo' and not 'brand', looks like all those years studying business are all for naught.
Wow, I haven't done acid in over eight years, but watching that in widescreen has about the same effect. Can't wait to pull this up on the projector at a PSA meeting next Fall. :)
Yeah, I didn't see the Lisa thing at first, it was more of a "what the hell?!", but yeah, that's totally it, no looking past it now. Too bad they'll probably change it.

I think it looks like exactly what it is: a not-cool, older person's idea of what youger people think is 'cool.' I can see the point in trying to attract the youth audience, but fer gods' sakes, if you're going to try to make something look like grafitti, at least make it look like good grafitti and not this 9-year-old (seriously -- I distinctly remember drawing letters like that in fourth grade) "I've got a spray paint can, look at me be cool!" crap. The fact that it's also causing seizures just adds to the obvious lack of foresight.
As far as the 'unsavory act' goes, they've got the labelling wrong: it's not the IOC giving... to London, but the other way 'round.

GOOD FOR THEM! Seriously. Just because we're used to capturing things on paper does not mean we need to keep designing things that look good on it. The Olympics should have had an animated logo years ago- damn static media! You can't capture sport in static media!
