|12:41 am - Initiation passed|
Today, I passed the initiation into ADF's Initiatory Current.
It wasn't easy, it was a bit frightening, and it was very deeply meaningful and powerful. For a few minutes, I honestly wasn't sure I would pass the three tests. But, in the end, both druidkirk and I passed, and we are now ADF Initiates.
It is clear, from the omens, that my work is only beginning, and I can expect a rough road ahead. This does not surprise me, but it is good to be prepared.
I simply need to focus, find my center, and experience the joy. . . For those are my lessons from this initiation.

Congratulations, Brother! Well done!
Thanks! It's been a ride, I have to admit!
I was wondering actually, knowing how seriously you take these things, if you would change your mind about being initiated this weekend. I am glad you didn't though and I am honored by both you and Kirk being the first of our initiates.
Well, I had done the work, and so was eligible (pending final review of the coursework). I submitted it with the notion of, "Well, it's done, and I will leave it up to the initiators to decide if they wish to initiate me based on it. If they do, I'll be ready. If they don't, I'll wait." I've always thought that initiation was no longer my decision to make once the work has been turned in, and that it would happen when it happened.
It turns out that Ian Corrigan
and Skip were interested in doing it, and I was, after all, eligible.
I did, though, make it clear that I did not expect
initiation, especially on such short notice (it's been well known that I was only a step or two behind Kirk, though). Placing the decision in their (more than capable) hands is what allowed me to feel okay about the timeline, and the testing process allowed me to feel very good about the fact that the work I'd done had prepared me very well.
Plus, it turned out to be very helpful to have two of us undergoing initiation: it was a curve ball that wasn't really expected, and so it allowed us to learn how to adapt and change, as well as provide additional feedback on the rite and testing procedure, early in the game. And we're likely to have enough initiators in the future for other initiates.

Congratulations! I'm so excited about this tradition. :)
Thank you! I'm excited to now be a part of it!
