Movin' on up (on Google)

Well, the Grove is getting there. . . and by "getting there" I mean that after 7 years of having a website, our Grove site has climbed onto the first page of results when you type in "columbus druids" (w/out the quotes) in Google.

Until today, we'd never cracked the first page. Now, we're the last result on that page (though the top result is to a story in the paper about us). This is progress, indeed.

I've been working hard to make this happen, actually, though you might not know it: I've been working on keywords and googlebombing the Grove from as many different sites as I can, and now it's paying off. The thing is, it's not dishonest (unlike most googlebombings): if you're looking for "columbus druids" you're looking for us, period. It's just the way it is. If you're looking for Druid Hall, you'll search for "druid hall columbus". If you're looking for the Columbus Children's Theatre's "The Druid Tree" musical, you'll search for "The Druid Tree". If you're looking for the Druid Hill monument to Columbus in Baltimore, you'll search for "columbus druid hill baltimore".

I've often felt like I was clawing up the Google mountain, trying to reach that top spot. Advertising for the Grove is something I've always taken seriously, and getting the site to where any seeker looking for Druids can find them in Columbus (regardless of how tech-savvy they are) has been a primary goal, mostly because I remember the days when you couldn't find other Druids. Those first few years of Druidry were pretty lonely, and I know I didn't know how to search for others.

It's good to not be so lonely in my religion, and especially good that the people I'm not lonely with are so wonderful.

Edit: Haha, well, we were the tenth result on that page. . . Looks like we're back to page 2. . . Fame is short-lived!
