08:57 am - Where I work.
Alright. So here's a set of pictures of my Legion of Doom:

http://chronarchy.com/misc/officepix.html

I'm posting that so you guys can see what it's like in my office, where I do all this LiveJournaling.

As you can see, I'm about 10 years old. :)

There aren't a lot of good pictures of my office, but I'm hoping that this might help you guys place me as I type. After all, it was a hell of a lot of fun to try to place you all.

Tina and I had Christmas last night. The thing that "sparkles, roars, and jingles" that I mentioned? A beautiful saphire bracelet, a velociraptor model, and a pair of jingle bells that are designed to fit on her wrists.

She loved them all.

And me? I got the best present I could have possibly hoped for. In fact, I didn't dare hope, in the event that somehow 12 months of hinting, pointing, and practically begging had been in vain. After all, occasionally all subtlty is lost on women (isn't that an ironic statement?).

Well, you can kind of see it to the right. It's a beautiful oak tree casting from a 19th century altar. I find the piece absolutely beautiful, and I've always wanted it for my altar. Now I have it, and I love it.

Interestingly, the piece has a sibling. The oak in that panel has flowers, though, not acorns, alluding to a bit of (now rare to hear) Christian myth that the oak tree will burst into flower when the Messiah comes.

All that's left is for me to finish painting my room, and I can finally finish my altar. This piece will form the center, and all things will be around it. It's about 8 1/4 in. wide, and 29 1/4 in. tall. It'll fit perfectly. Actually, the altar has already been designed for it. It was simply awaiting the final piece.

Sometimes I think Tina has trouble figuring me out. Then she goes and finds the perfect gift, and I realize she's really just playing with me.

I love her.

Right now, the model I got is on sale at Kay Jewelers:

In yellow gold

In white gold

I got Tina the one in white gold.

The rest of Kay Jeweler's catalog of Saphires

I visited nearly every store in town before I settled on that particular bracelet. Most places just have diamonds, and precious little else. I thought that particular bracelet was really one of the most beautiful ones I could find for under $1000 (it didn't hurt that it was under $100, but I was prepared to spend around $500, if necessary).

I saved Kay for last because I've had remarkable luck there. I only purchase real stones, and I don't buy anything that I think is ugly, just because it's expensive.

I've also had good luck at Whitehall jewelers.

I'll probably never get a diamond for Tina because I don't think they're nice stones. Were I to get her an engagement ring, it'd be an emerald. Diamonds are just. . . well, ugly.

She's said more than once that I obviously have good taste in jewlery. And she agrees about the diamonds.

The casting is beautiful!

Sorry to be a downer, but a warning about white gold. Several years ago, my cousin bought a white gold engagement ring for an ex-fiancee (he's now married to someone else). He specifically asked that it be white gold and not electro-plated white gold over yellow gold. He was assured it was white gold. However, a few months later the ring started developing a yellow tint. Closer inspection showed the ring had indeed been electro-plated.

That's why I want platinum and rubies. :D

Buying jewelry is always tricky like that. Someone I know took a magnet with her & ran it over the sterling silver jewelery & was amazed at how many of the necklaces pulled towards the magnet. Sterling over a base metal is still labeled sterling. Chances are the clerks wouldn't even know.

Unfortunately, I don't know a neat trick like that that'll work on gold at all. Well, other than taking a file to it. Clerks might take issue with that, though. :)

Thank you *so much*. This is the first affordable bracelet of the type I want to get her. You *rock*.

Yes, yes. I know.

You may kiss the ground I walk on, if you wish.

:)

I'm just glad I could help.

I should note, though: the sale probably only runs until Christmas Eve. Might want to get it either tonight or tomorrow if that's what you want to do.

Kiss the ground you walk on, ay? *smooch*

It says prices are good through the 31st, but I will give them a call tomorrow. I likely won't find anything else in my price range, not to mention that it's beautiful and if I had enough money I'd buy 2 ;-)

Beautiful bracelet! White gold is much nicer than yellow, although harder to work with (mostly because it's a harder metal)

I agree about diamonds not being very pretty. My engagement ring had an emerald in it, too- 5 or 6 mm marquis cut. I occasionally toy with the idea of wearing it just as a ring because I really like it but I'm not to that point yet, mentally speaking. Maybe I should set the stone in a ring I cast myself. Hmm....
