Well, Lex is in the mail. As I didn't want him going too long without companionship, I've sent him two-day, rather than 3-5. I know that mlleelizabeth will appreciate.

I sent everything in for my car donation today. Got the sigs notarized, and sent them off.

As I walked back to my office, I came across something rather curious. There was a small ring of mushrooms under a tree near my office, the ground they were sitting on was raised slightly. In the center there was a larger mushroom.

They sat under the shade of the tree. I stood there for a while looking at them, kind of wondering how they got into such a syemtrical shape. I turned to go back to my office after a moment, and was startled to see movement around the mound of fungi out of the corner of my eye. I looked back, and nothing appeared to be there, but I've learned that one can never tell.

In the words of Buffett: "And I thought, 'Well, what the hell is wrong with that?'"

One might suggest that I invoked them, but that'd be a pretty dirty trick.

But, ah, you know me. I'm a vindictive jealous bastard, angry that she's taken a new lover. Yeah, that's it. :)

Mushrooms naturally grow in rings, because the "root" of the plant is in the center, and the roots (I think they are called roots) travel underground out to the edges and put up fruiting bodies to distribute the spores as widely as possible from the parent. I believe that there are mushrooms that cover miles in diameter, and are the largest organisms on earth? (I watched a lot of Northern Exposure, and got that factoid from that show)
I saw a 2.5 foot ring of tiny flattish-looking mushrooms in the basement of the grove when I used to live there. Right under my apt, growing in the thin dusting of damp sawdust from various home improvement projects that are always going on there. :)

Re: Shroom...

*grins* I love science lessons :)

I think that that bit about fungus covering miles was also in an early X-Files episode, if I'm not mistaken. Just as the series peaked.
